Response: "The Future of Learning"

I am so very excited to become a teacher, with the endless amount of possibilities that lie ahead of us, and this video only emphasizes the change that will be occurring. To be honest, it makes me nervous as I wonder what this change will involve.

I agree that schools began just as factories did, to create people who were the same, but I also agree with what was said in the video in that, “we don’t have a shortage of factory workers anymore.” Every single individual learns in a different way and has different talents and I think that education is going to try and embrace these differences more. As fabulous as this is for the student, what does this mean for the teacher? What does this mean that our job will include and how different will the classroom be? I don’t think that the teacher can ever be replaced as the face to face interaction is key! But, the role of a teacher may change. The video showed one company called Knewton and their beliefs. I think it is so cool how this program will be able to decide when you learn certain subjects best, and how, and when! If the program decides this, fitting each individual’s needs, then how will this change the role of a teacher? Will we be expected to have all our students doing something different at all times? I think it would be helpful for teachers to know this unique information about their students and somehow incorporate it into their day.

This statement, “Learners who find the answers for themselves retain it better than if they are told the answers” was said in the video and I agree with this statement. I know from personal experience that unless I learn the information for myself I am not going to remember it. It is up to the teachers to make sure that you learn the information, in a variety of ways, and that they don’t tell you the answers.

The video was really good, and I liked it! It got me thinking of all that is possible to come. I will embrace the change with an open mind and give it my all!
